Dr. Jonathan Farley: From Ivy League to Eviction – A Mathematician’s Unyielding Fight for Justice

Dr. Jonathan Farley’s story is one of extraordinary intellect, harrowing family conflict, and an unrelenting pursuit of justice. A distinguished mathematician, Farley graduated summa cum laude from Harvard University, where he earned the second-highest GPA in his class. His academic prowess continued at Oxford University, where he was awarded both the Senior Mathematical Prize and the Johnson University Prize, two of the most prestigious honors for graduate students in mathematics.

Farley’s academic journey led him to tenure at Vanderbilt University and eventually to a professorship at Morgan State University, a historically Black institution in Baltimore, Maryland. Despite his success in academia, Dr. Farley’s life took a dark turn, leading him from university halls to the distressing battles of the legal system.

A Family Crisis Begins

Dr. Farley’s troubles began during the COVID-19 pandemic when he moved with his elderly mother to a secluded home near Brockport, New York. The two lived in isolation to protect his mother from the virus, and Farley took on the responsibility of caring for her, providing not just companionship but ensuring her awareness of the evolving health crisis.

However, the serenity of their life together was shattered in August 2022, when Dr. Farley returned to Baltimore to resume his in-person teaching. That’s when he claims his brother, residing over 350 miles away, began a legal battle to seize control of their mother’s assets, including the home they both co-owned. Farley alleges that his brother used fraudulent means and court manipulation to gain complete control after their mother’s death in August 2024.

An Unexpected Eviction

Despite Farley’s legal claim to the home, a shocking eviction process unfolded. On January 4 and 5, 2025, Dr. Farley asserts that an individual acting on behalf of his brother unlawfully entered the house, changed the locks, and disregarded his legal rights. Even though police were notified, they allegedly took no action.

In an unexpected turn of events, Dr. Farley claims that a local court allowed his brother to pursue an eviction lawsuit even though neither his brother nor the estate owned the home. “I was evicted from a house that wasn’t even in my brother’s name,” Farley says. “And the court allowed it.”

On June 20, 2025, just after midnight, Farley and his elderly cousin, attorney Jane Farley, were forced out of the home. Jane, who was not named in the eviction order, was also forcibly removed, denied sufficient time to gather her belongings, and left homeless alongside Dr. Farley.

Unraveling Real Estate Fraud

Dr. Farley’s ordeal didn’t stop with the eviction. The home, appraised at $180,000, was quickly listed for under $100,000—raising suspicions of real estate fraud. Despite his efforts to intervene, including removing “For Sale” signs, they were reinstalled.

When Farley contacted local authorities to report the potential fraud and his cousin’s illegal eviction, he was met with inaction. Even at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Farley was reportedly denied the chance to file a police report. Further exacerbating the situation, a deputy allegedly fabricated claims of a “fraudulent deed” in an attempt to discredit Farley.

A Grief-Fueled Legal Struggle

Dr. Farley believes this series of events is part of a larger cover-up. He alleges that local authorities are shielding his brother’s previous illegal act—the kidnapping of their mother in 2023. Farley claims his mother was abducted from her home with police cooperation, an event documented in a viral video that has garnered over a million views on YouTube.

Now, after spending significant financial resources on legal representation, Dr. Farley is still in limbo, residing in a hotel with his cousin, battling a system he claims is stacked against him. Despite the challenges, Farley remains determined to fight for justice, not only for himself but for his late mother and his cousin.

A Call for Reform

Dr. Farley’s experience is a stark reminder of the vulnerability many individuals face when confronted with power, legal manipulation, and inadequate police support. His case has become a rallying cry for those advocating for guardianship reforms. “If someone with my background and resources can be treated this way, what hope do the average person have?” Farley states.

His call for reform is further emphasized by the tragic circumstances surrounding his mother’s death. Farley advocates for the passage of Karilyn’s Law, legislation designed to offer better protection for vulnerable individuals, ensuring no one has to endure what his family has suffered.
